Violin rosin, viola rosin and cello rosin are used to coat the bow hair of the bow in order for the hairs to grip and therefore vibrate the strings as it is pulled and stroked.
Applying rosin to your bow hair will improve the overall quality and volume of sound produced. Rosin is made from tree resin mixed with other materials to obtain the desired consistency. A rosin block is also known as a rosin cake.
Rosin must be applied to any new bow and reapplied on a regular basis.
